home news/events press take 2 - inspiring devotionals the chasing dog
:: The Chasing Dog ::

A man had a dog that seemed to spend the whole day just waiting for the Empire State Express to pass by. Now, my friend, this was some kind of dog! He would dash with all his speed along the tracks until the last coach went by.
One day a by-stander asked the owner of the dog, “What makes him do that?”
The owner replied, “I don’t know, but I often wonder what he would do with the train if he ever caught it!”
Like I said…that was some kind of dog! And well, you know I’ll find a sermon there somewhere don’t you?
Simply, it seems to be this: Many people are pursuing goals, pleasures, and a kind of non-stop activity that will forever be out of their reach. They’ll never catch it.
Like the cat with the word “happiness” taped to its tail… chasing it as if its life depended on it. But chase as it might, it will never find happiness.
Same with the dog that chased the train – if he did catch it, he wouldn’t know what to do next.
How about you? How about me? Are we chasing the wind? Grasping at straws? Or are we allowing God to show us what’s really important for our lives?
