:: Listening to Nature ::

In the book The Golden String, Bede Griffiths describes a profound childhood experience. He was walking outside one summer evening, and suddenly became aware of how beautifully the birds were singing.
He wondered why he had never heard them sing like this before. Continuing to walk, he came to a field. Everything was quiet and still. As he stood there, watching the sun slip below the horizon, he felt inclined to kneel down.
It was as though the presence of the Almighty, in all his glory, were there in an intangible way. He wrote later, “Now that I look back on it, it seemed to me it was one of the most decisive moments of my life.”
I understand how Griffiths must have felt, surrounded by the presence of the Almighty God of all the universe. I love the words of Psalm 46, “Be still, and know that I am God.” Be still.
The Message translation reads, “Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God.” Its hard to hear His voice and sense His presence when we are stuck on a freeway in the traffic of life.
Friend, Be still- then you will KNOW that God is God.
