:: The Why Question ::
When Jesus saw the man blind from birth, He said, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened that the works of God might be displayed in his life.”
Wow! What a revelation to the religious people of Jesus’ day. Surely there must have been SOME good reason for the man’s illness? There was always a reason, wasn’t
The fact that some people come into the world with severe disabilities disturbs us. We feel a deep sense of compassion, and instinctively wonder why they must suffer.
We must never try to place blame when someone has a disability. When Jesus met the man born blind, He was quick to tell His disciples that no one had sinned, “but this happened that the works of God should be displayed in his life.”
Then He did what He could to help – He healed the man.
We can’t heal people as Jesus did, but we can make their lives better through acts of kindness – something we have done at Fred Jordan Missions now for more than 60 years. Every day we share God’s love, and then we offer food, clothing, shelter, and a listening ear, in genuine friendship and respect.
Please join me in praying, “Lord, help us to uphold the dignity of every person, and to focus on what we can do to help those in need.”
