home news/events press take 3 - inspiring devotionals broken toaster
:: Broken Toaster ::

What can a broken toaster teach us?
Edna Butterfield tells the story of how her husband, Ron, once taught a class of mentally challenged teenagers. Instead of focusing on their limitations, Ron reinforced their capabilities. He got them to play chess, restore furniture, and repair electrical appliances. Most importantly, through it all, he taught them to believe in themselves.
The kids really took to heart this new-found approach to life. One day a young boy brought in a broken toaster to repair. He carried the toaster under one arm… and a loaf of bread under the other. Talk about faith!
There was no doubt in his mind that he was going to fix the toaster!
I see the fruit of this faith principle down at Fred Jordan Mission. As we invest in hungry, homeless people, they in turn start believing in themselves. Success is no longer a distant possibility… it becomes reality.
As you face difficulties in your life, don’t focus on what you cannot do… rather realize what God can do through you, fixing the broken toasters in your life!
