:: Hudson Taylor ::

Missionary Hudson Taylor wrote his wife, “We have twenty-five cents and all the promises of God.”

Hudson Taylor was one of the first missionaries to China in the 19th century. He often faced impossible financial and physical trials. Once while traveling to China, the ship was “dead-in-the-water” near New Guinea—no wind, and the rapid current was carrying the ship toward dangerous reefs.

“We’ve done everything we can,” the captain told Taylor. “No, there is one thing we have not done yet,” Taylor replied, and he suggested they pray for a strong wind. Taylor was so confident God would answer that he told the captain let down the sails. The man refused, but then the wind came. When the captain finally unfurled the sail, they were spared.

Today, do you feel like a ship adrift in the ocean, being carried toward the reefs? Problems with no apparent solution? No money…no breeze to blow you to safety. Remember what Hudson Taylor wrote his wife, “We have twenty-five cents, and all the promises of God.”
