Mother's Day

Mother’s Day in the inner city is simply one more Misery Day for the mothers who struggle to provide for their children.  You see, Skid Row used to be a place for just men - - “winos” and derelicts.  And needless to say, the streets still have their fair share of these needy souls.

But tragically, these streets have changed.  Families, typically headed by single mothers, represent a growing percentage of the homeless population - - 80,000+ in Los Angeles County.

Alone with children, abandoned and often abused by those who promised to protect and provide for them, these mothers desperately need our help.

For the tragic fact is that without the love and support that you and I can provide, this Mother’s Day will be just another day of fear and anxiety for hundreds of mothers in the inner city.

However, with your help on this very important day, the Mission hosts a Mother’s Day celebration they’ll remember for years to come!  Every mother will receive a beautiful fresh flower, then we will serve a great banquet in the street - - roast chicken with all trimmings, and a gift bag for each mother when they leave.
