:: Ezekiel's Story ::

"With God in charge, I know everything’s going to be okay from here on out."

My name is Ezekiel. God has done a lot for me over the past few years! My testimony proves that lives can change and that families can be reunited through the power of the Lord!

I had lost everything…and everyone.

A few years back, I hit rock bottom. I lost all my money because of some bad financial decisions I made. I didn’t know what to do, so I turned to alcohol and drugs to make myself feel better, but that only made my life worse. I lost my house, and soon my three sons and I ended up on the street. I thought that things could not get any worse. Then I lost my kids. Social Services saw me as an unfit father. To be honest, they were right. I was unfit. My life felt like it was over. I was hungry, cold, and alone. I didn’t know where to turn.

I started attending nightly meetings at the Fred Jordan Mission, mainly because of the free dinner afterwards. But somewhere along the line, I started to get the message. I learned that Jesus died for my sins—and to set me free from my sins. I knew I needed to stop drinking and using, and I made the decision to turn my life around. The people at the Mission prayed with me and supported me, and they were a big part of my new start.

Slowly, life started to make sense again.

One of the Mission employees saw how important my new commitment to Christ and right living was, and he took the steps to help me get back on track. He hooked me up with Chrysalis and vouched for me so that I was able to get a job. He also helped me enroll in some of the city’s parenting courses so that I could begin on the road to regaining custody of my children. That job and coursework helped enormously. They provided me with the income I needed to get back on my feet and taught me life lessons that my own parents didn’t.  Instead of making stupid investments or buying alcohol and drugs, I was a good steward with my money and saved up enough to get an apartment of my own. God’s blessing was clear in my life.

God brought my family back!

After a year or so of clean living and stable housing, a miracle occurred. The Mission connected me with a social worker, and she saw the changes in my life and believed that they were permanent changes. After a lot of home visits and paperwork, my kids were finally given back to me. I can’t tell you how much that meant to me. Even now, it brings tears of joy to my eyes. I love my children so much and will never give them up again.

Besides, now we have a new head of our household. With God in charge, I know everything’s going to be okay from here on out.
