"I am Holy; You be Holy" (God)

“God said, “I am holy; you be holy.”

God does not conform to a standard of holiness. He is the standard! He is holy!

When I was a teenager we sang a little chorus: “To be like Jesus, To be like Jesus, All I ask – is to be like Him.” At that early age, I was challenged “to be like Him,” and more than 60-years later, this is still the primary goal in my life.

Isaiah knew God as “The Holy One of Israel,” and he wrote: “I saw the Lord seated on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of His robe filled the temple. And the angels were calling to one another: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole world is full of His glory.’ ‘Woe is me!’ Isaiah cried. ‘I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips. My eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.’”

Why would Isaiah say he had unclean lips? I believe that when he saw God in all His holiness, he realized that his own righteous acts were like filthy rags. (Isaiah 64:6)

Talk of holiness today is often thought to be old-fashioned, or passe. But The Message Bible says, “As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way of life shaped by God’s life, a life energetic and blazing with holiness.”

I don’t know about you, but I pray daily that my life will be shaped by God’s life, a life that is energetic, and blazing with holiness! Will you join me in that prayer?

Blessings,

Willie Jordan
