Los Angeles' Shocking Poverty Rate
“Almost 40% of our community lives in what only can be called misery,” says a report by the blue-ribbon Los Angeles 2020 Commission.
This report covered the entire City of Los Angeles. But tragically, the report went on to say, “Almost 100% of our Skid Row community lives in what only can be called misery.”
The Los Angeles 2020 Commission went on to state, “Los Angeles’ poverty rate is higher than in any other American city, and the 10% unemployment rate is the highest of any major American city.”
After hearing these shocking statistics, you can see why summer for children in the inner city is miserable, and hungry! And that’s is why I am grateful for caring friends like you - - friends who partner with us - - not simply during the holidays, but also during the long, hot days of summer, when children’s hunger is very real.
I invite you to come to Fred Jordan Mission on Skid Row during the summer months. Learn to share God’s love, and feed hungry people. Bring your leadership team, your women’s or men’s group, or your youth group. Come for a day, or even a week, and stay overnight in our dorms.
Here on the streets you can follow the Great Commission - - to preach the gospel. And you can follow the Great Commandment - - to love your neighbor as yourself. It will change your church, your youth group. It will change YOU.
