Pray for Inner City Mothers

“There, but for the grace of God, go I.” These words ring in my mind when I talk with a homeless mother here on the streets of Skid Row.

God has called me to serve the poor, and many of those we serve are mothers. When I talk with them, and see their frightened little children, I think, “There, but for the grace of God, go I.”

I’m a mother. My children never had to live in a filthy welfare hotel, or a gang-controlled government project, or right out on the cold sidewalk. My children never went to bed hungry. Why was I blessed?

Mother's Day is nearly here, and on Skid Row there’s no loving husband to give a mother a pretty card, or take the family out for a special dinner. Celebrating holidays is just a dream to a homeless mother.

But with your help, we’ll celebrate Mother’s Day here at the Mission with a special dinner, fresh flowers, personal gift bags, food bags to take when they leave, and even small gifts for the children.

I would also like to give these mothers a priceless gift – the gift of your prayers. If you will pray for inner city moms, will you send me your name? I’ll give it to a struggling mother, assuring her of your prayers.

Send it to me through our website, fjm.org; or send me your name through the mail, Fred Jordan Mission, PO Box 12345, Covina, CA 91722, BOX 12345, Covina, 91722.

Blessings,

Willie Jordan
