"Thank you for caring".
Summertime is a busy time, and our focus is usually on other things. But as we move towards fall, our focus at Fred Jordan Missions is on the children who are heading back to school.
Our Back to School Drive-Thru Giveaway on Skid Row is overflowing with sign-ups. We will serve 3,000 to 4,000 children and their families. Picture this: car after car driving in front of the Mission—filled with children receiving back-to-school essentials from our amazing volunteers.

It’s a beautiful sight to see the children smile from ear to ear and their parents filled with joy and gratefulness in their hearts.
Here is what they are receiving: BRAND NEW SHOES, new socks, new outfits, new backpacks, new school supplies, and new hygiene kits.
And all this would not be possible without your generous help. Many of you have already given, and I want to personally say thank you.
We need all the help we can get from our supporters to make this Back to School Drive-Thru Giveaway happen. So if you have the means and the heart to, would you consider giving a special gift towards this event, even beyond what you may typically give?
Your gift will change a child’s life.
Here are a few ways that you can help:
Give a generous gift if you are able to do so. Even consider an automatic monthly gift to help us throughout the entire year.
Tell your family and friends about what Fred Jordan Missions is doing to help the homeless and hopeless. Be an ambassador and ask your friends to match your gift. This can be a great “grassroots movement.”
Pray with us at Fred Jordan Missions for those in need, the staff, and volunteers.
Consider volunteering as we move into our Season of Giving. To learn more, go to FJM.org/volunteer.

ALMOST HALF A MILLION CHILDREN LIVING IN POVERTY IN LOS ANGELES
“It’s one thing to BE POOR, it’s another thing to LOOK POOR.”
That’s a statement I have often heard my mother, Willie Jordan, say. Most of the time, this applied to our conversations about children and their school clothes.
As a child, she can remember living in Arkansas and going to school in a tattered dress and no shoes.
Humiliated and embarrassed, but that was the reality of being raised in a large family with barely enough money for food, much less for clothes.
According to U.S. Census recent estimates, LA County is home to over 10M. 18.2% of all people in LA County live below the poverty level, including 26.6% children. The quick math on that is 1.8M total people, with over 480,000 of those being children.
It seems like an uphill battle. These statistics are not going down; they are going up, but the Jordan family, my parents, Fred and Willie, stayed in the fight, and yes, today, I’m geared up for battle.
You may ask, what are you doing about it, Joe?
Where do I begin?
In August, we are preparing for our “Back to School Giveaway,” which is something my mother started back over 35 years ago. This is, for lack of a better term, an “Extravaganza.”
In just a few weeks, we will be giving away thousands of pairs of brand-new shoes to the children of Los Angeles!
In preparation for them returning to school, they will receive socks (you need new socks for those new shoes), new clothes, backpacks, school supplies, and hygiene and toiletries kits with toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and so much more.
I really want to emphasize the word new because I want you to know that these are not hand-me-down items. With your help and your support, we only give the best, so these items are NEW.
My mother fully understands the importance of sending these precious children to school with fresh, clean new shoes, clothes, and also a smile on their faces, and I understand the importance too.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $200 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
Will you give a special gift to support these efforts? If you’ve never donated, know that your gift can and will change the life of a child!
Thank you for joining me in this ministry. Thank you for giving. God bless you!
Blessings,
JOE JORDAN

Serving Hope this Summer!
“We must accept finite disappointment, but we must never lose infinite hope.”
—Martin Luther King, Jr.
Finite—having limits, that is man’s perspective, and today there are so many limitations put on us, just in living life, we are limited, we all feel the effects of our economy. Feeding my family is not the same as it was three months ago, much less helping thousands of individuals on the streets of Skid Row or helping families throughout Greater Los Angles and into the Coachella Valley.

Finite is limited, but as Dr. King stated, “we must never lose infinite hope.”
INFINITE Hope is found in knowing Jesus.
Do you know Him today?
Have you put all your trust in Him?
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. —Romans 15:13
God wants us to know and trust Him so that even when we can’t see for sure what He is doing, we do not doubt Him.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” —Jeremiah 29:11
We can put our trust in what the Lord is doing in our personal relationships, our family, our careers, our finances, our health, and in every circumstance in our lives.
Please know this, I’m praying for you, and I ask that you pray for Fred Jordan Missions.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500| $1,000
I also want to ask, if you are in a position to help us financially in our mission, will you do so now? Summer is here, and with summer comes the scorching heat among other hardships for those living on the streets. With that in mind, we will be supplying thousands of gallons of fresh drinking water, healthy meals, fresh produce and dairy, hygiene products, and lighter clothing to help with heat relief.
It is through your faithfulness (and I know you even sacrifice) to help those in greater need than yourself. Your selfless giving does not go unnoticed or unappreciated.
Please consider a gift of any size to help us continue to declare and demonstrate the love of God to everyone in need of Infinite Hope, Jesus Christ our Savior.

God Bless You,
Bad choices and self inflicted pain.
The men living there probably don’t have jobs, most likely are on parole, the majority are substance abusers, they are viewed as “deadbeat dads,” they’ve made bad choices, and have inflicted pain upon themselves and their families.
Therefore, the general feeling is to celebrate fathers anywhere BUT those on Skid Row. Do you know how many times I have heard that? Too many, and I don’t like it.
Why celebrate Father’s Day on Skid Row?

I had a great father, and it was easy to celebrate him. I believe my kids also enjoy honoring me on this day; that probably is the case for most.
Yet, I don’t like the stigma that lingers on the fathers of Skid Row. Will you help me change this?
This Father’s Day, I want to reach out in love and encouragement and remind them; Don’t let the failures of your past dictate your future.
I’m all about second chances. I’ve been given a few in my lifetime, and that’s what I share with not just fathers but everyone I encounter on Skid Row. Second chances are possible because we serve a God of second, third, tenth, and fifty chances. He is merciful and infinitely forgiving.
I’ve heard countless stories about lives on Skid Row that have been changed.

A member of my staff recently met a man sitting under one of the mission speakers outside the building on the corner of 5th and Towne.
Every day he would come and listen to the worship music and gospel messages broadcast outside. He shared his tragic story with us, we prayed with him and encouraged him to trust in Jesus, and he did just that. Immediately, he pulled it together, and he returned home to his family, sober and focused on being the man God intended for him to be.
Stories like this keep me committed, passionate, and wanting to do more to reach fathers, mothers, sons, and daughters of all ages with the love of Jesus and His power to give infinite second chances.
Please consider a gift of any size to help us continue to declare and demonstrate the love of Jesus to everyone in need of a Redeemer, a Savior.

“What home we gonna go to?”
The Government does not have answers, but the Bible does!
In a recent heated exchange, a congressional representative told a crowd of homeless people in Los Angeles to “go home.” In response, cries from the group said, “What home we gonna go to?”

In a recent heated exchange, a congressional representative told a crowd of homeless people in Los Angeles to “go home.” In response, cries from the group said, “What home we gonna go to?”
Joyce, a 77-year-old disabled woman, said, “I’m homeless. I’m living wherever I can.”
Pain, confusion, and anger over the homelessness crisis “boils over,” as a recent L.A. Times article reported while expressing concern over the growing problem in Los Angeles—the largest homeless population in America.
This fact is a reality. The homeless population has grown and expanded well beyond Skid Row, so Fred Jordan Missions has extended our reach to help those in downtown Los Angeles and beyond.
However, this is not a political issue for us but a biblical one. Scripture is very clear on how we should treat those in poverty. Jesus loves the poor and commands us to help them from the Old Testament to the New.
It is that simple.
From Deuteronomy, it says not to harden our hearts or close our hands to the poor but give freely...
From Proverbs, it says if we have pity on the poor, we are lending to Jesus, who will repay us for what we have given...
From Luke, it says we should invite the poor, maimed, lame, and blind to our feasts, and we will be blessed...

Will you help me help the “Joyce’s” on Skid Row, the mothers who need to feel loved on Mother’s Day, and all those whom Jesus has called us to care for, from the least of these on Skid Row to beyond?
Your most generous gift is needed and very appreciated. Thank You.

Red and yellow, black and white around the world—we are all God’s children!
Over the past few days, we have all watched the images of war in the Ukraine in shock and worry.
When the battle raged around the nuclear battle plant at Zaporizhzhia, the news discussion focused on phrases like, “Nuclear Global Warfare” and “This could ignite “World War Three.” These kinds of statements bring a war that is one continent away very close to where you and I live.
“Red and yellow, black and white, we are ALL precious in His sight, Jesus loves thelittle children of the world.” That line is from a song that I learned as a child.
These discussions cause pause and concern, just like when the Covid-19 news spread like a wildfire around the world. These rumors of global war can infiltrate our minds once again with a horrible four-letter word: Fear.
My challenge for you today is to replace that four-letter word with this one: Pray!
PRAY for Ukraine and Russia.
PRAY for all world leaders.
PRAY for those suffering around the world.
PRAY for America.
PRAY for our Mission.
The task at hand for Fred Jordan Missions is simply this: To Declareand Demonstrate the Love of Jesus no matter what is happening around the world.
This is my declaration based on God’s Word and its promises: “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6)
Red and yellow, black and white around the world—we are all God’s children! So, be encouraged today. Be strong, and do not fear.
Daily, we help the needy who come through our doors, including friends of every color and refugees from around the world. We also serve those in need from our nation and own backyard. Will you help me help others in need?
Pray! Prayer is key. We all need prayer today, more than ever.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500| $1,000
Give! Will you give the biggest gift possible today?
We are on the front lines of Skid Row. Los Angeles houses all types of people in great need who are cold, abandoned, lost, hurting, and afraid. But we can help change their circumstance and ease the pain together—you and I can make a difference.

“Thanks for the coffee and breakfast”
I just received this email from Timotheigh, one of the almost 70,000 homeless who lived in Los Angeles last year. I do not know why he fell on hard times and what drove him to the streets. But “life happens” and, at times, is not fair— especially living in today’s volatile world.
Timotheigh wrote in his email, “I want to thank you for the delicious coffee and breakfast on Saturdays throughout the year on Skid Row.

Timotheigh wrote in his email, “I want to thank you for the delicious coffee and breakfast on Saturdays throughout the year on Skid Row. It is always a pleasure to know that friendly faces and good food are waiting at Fred Jordan Mission.”
Smiles, friendly faces, hugs, and a little assurance that “God loves them, and we love them” are sometimes what is needed to bring hope to those who are suffering.
Our Fred Jordan Missions staff is small but mighty, and what you might think is a big organization is not. However, we have a big operation that feeds thousands upon thousands of hungry people throughout the month because we trust in a big God!
I call our staff “Team Jesus,” which consists of 12 dedicated, caring people and a robust roster of volunteers who allow us to accomplish more than you think.
Timotheigh’s email continued, “Believe it or not, Saturday coffee at Fred Jordan Mission is an important thing to many people; it helps people feel like they have friends or perhaps belong to a small community. The generous folks who provided for us should be commended for their hard work, and we sure appreciate the great job that everyone does throughout the year.”
It is stories and letters like this that excite and motivate us to do more. But I realize that none of this could be done without you!
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500| $1,000
You see, we are the hands and feet that serve and tangibly touch, talk, and show the love of Jesus to each Timotheigh who walks to the door of the mission. But it is you and your generous donations that stock us with coffee and breakfast items, supplies to make hot, nutritious meals, and the clothes, socks, shoes, and blankets we distribute to make others’ lives more comfortable.
Today, I ask you to please never stop caring. I am more committed than ever to declare and demonstrate the love of Jesus to those on Skid Row and in communities from Los Angeles to the Coachella Valley.
You can give a one-time donation of any amount or set up a recurring gift monthly as we move forward to serve even more in 2022.

Our doors remain open!
I am sure you heard the challenge “Finish Strong” over the past several weeks. It was the common anthem from many great organizations and ministries worldwide to help them end 2021 in the black. You may have even heard me utter the phrase “Help us finish strong” on our FJM.TV broadcast, through our social media platforms or other correspondence, and you rose to the challenge.

When I think of the hundreds of thousands of people Jesus touched through Fred Jordan Missions in 2021, the millions of pounds of food we distributed throughout Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley, and the multitude of meals served to those in need last year; I liken it to running a race.
In a relay race, the anchor leg is the final position. Typically, this runner is the fastest or most experienced competitor on their team. Their job is to make up ground on the race or maintain the lead already secured by their teammates, ultimately finishing strong.
One commonly held misconception is that the fastest runner should automatically be the anchor leg, running last with the baton. However, the relay’s first runner must be able to start well, get off the mark and up to speed quickly, and not be likely to falter or begin prematurely.
I love what the Bible states about races in Hebrews 12:1. The end of this verse says, “Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.” I also appreciate 1 Corinthians 9:24, which says, “Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may obtain it.”

At Fred Jordan Missions, the starting gun has sounded for 2022, and we are out of the blocks—starting strong and running fast! Will you help us continue our momentum with a generous gift?
Our doors remain open, and our distribution center is in full swing sorting fresh produce, dairy, and meats, and our trucks are fueled and ready to head to impoverished neighborhoods with groceries, clothing, and life’s essentials to serve the needy.
With sicknesses spiking, food insecurities abounding, more businesses closing, and jobs diminishing, we have a greater responsibility to share God’s love with the hurting and help meet the needs of those suffering its effects than ever before. We are counting on you to stand with us.
Fred Jordan Missions is out of the blocks. So, let’s start strong together!

A Note from Joe Jordan
Happy New Year,
You need to know how much your partnership with Fred Jordan Missions touched and potentially saved the lives of so many people in 2021.
We are still amid a global pandemic that has affected numerous people worldwide. Our community, friends, and fellow citizens in Southern California have been hit hard, especially here in Los Angeles.
Our city officials have personally reached out to us and said, “Fred Jordan Missions is ‘essential.’”
We have never shut our doors due to sickness, or a lack of staff, volunteers, or finances. We also did not pull back from serving meals on Skid Row or distributing food to impoverished families in Los Angeles or the Coachella Valley.
On the contrary, we grew as the needs of hurting people grew, thanks to our devoted staff, caring volunteers, and partners like you who prayed and gave sacrificially. Your support helped us continue declaring and demonstrating God’s love to those in need, and we look forward to you standing with us in 2022 as we embark on our 78th year of caring for those in need, in Jesus’ name.
God was faithful, and so were you! That is why I say, “Thank You!”
God bless you,

Christmas 2021 is happening!
Christmas is not on backorder or stuck on a cargo ship in one of our ports. It is not affected by flight delays or traffic because the love of Jesus and His gift of salvation is readily available!
Will you join me in declaring and demonstrating God’s love this December to those who have nothing on Skid Row and in poverty-stricken areas of Los Angeles and the Coachella Valley?
I have some encouraging news: Christmas 2021 is happening!
We have tens of thousands of pounds of food—including various meats, fresh produce, and full family meals—ready to hand out to those coming to our Mission’s doors. We also have our trucks ready to roll from our distribution center in the Coachella Valley, where we will supply impoverished families with food boxes and toys for Christmas.
There is nothing like seeing the smile of a child and hearing their laughter as they receive a brand-new toy. Their hugs, joy, and tears are so precious, and we want you to be a part of it.
Here is your opportunity!
First and foremost, we need your prayers. Pray for each of these holiday events, including our staff, partners, and those who will serve alongside us. Also, pray for those on the receiving end to be touched by Jesus and the power of His gospel message.
Next, sign up to volunteer. There are several opportunities available for you to experience the joy of Christmas by giving your time, talents, and energy. Go to FJM.org to learn more about becoming a volunteer.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $500 | $1,000 | $5,000
Lastly, donate by giving the largest gift possible. Jesus has blessed us this year in so many ways. He has kept the Mission doors open amidst the challenges and adversities of the pandemic. He also enabled us to feed more people in Los Angeles and throughout impoverished communities than ever before, using your support to help accomplish it.
With excitement and eager anticipation of doing even more, I ask you to give as generously as possible TODAY.
Remember—when you support Fred Jordan Missions, you help bring the hope and love of Jesus to thousands of hurting and hopeless souls.

INVEST IN CHANGE
“Be flexible lest ye be broken.” I like that statement in regards to “Change.”
Sometimes, I don’t like change, though sometimes it is unavoidable.
In our world today, we have all had to learn to bend, be flexible, and roll with changes as they happen.
Over the past year, there have been numerous changes we have made at Fred Jordan Missions. We’ve had to adapt to continue to love and provide for so many in need.

In our world today, we have all had to learn to bend, be flexible, and roll with changes as they happen.
Over the past year, there have been numerous changes we have made at Fred Jordan Missions. We’ve had to adapt to continue to love and provide for so many in need.
The word “continue” is the key verb here because we have never stopped or paused. Our methods or output may have changed, but our love and compassion grow stronger every day.
A prime example of this was during our recent Back to School Giveaway, where over 2,000 children and their parents arrived in their cars. During this drive-through event, we spent the day meeting these underprivileged students and handing out brand new shoes and clothes to those ages 5 to 18. For moms and dads, we distributed family food boxes.
Throughout the day, the smiles, tears, high fives, and hugs were so heartfelt, very emotional, and—honestly—I thought of “YOU” with every emotion I felt.
You may ask, “Joe, why were you thinking of me?”
The answer is because, if it weren’t for you, we would not see these smiles and tears or receive hugs and thank you’s.
This is not only about Fred Jordan Missions but about you sending us out to do the work of ministry. Your gifts help provide food, clothing, hygiene products, and the hope of Jesus to thousands.
“Without Fred Jordan Missions, we would have nothing.”
Parents came to our drive-through giveaway hungry, hurting, and hopeless, and we gave them hope...
ALEX G. - “My kids had nothing new to wear to school, but you provided them with shoes and clothes. I have been out of work and barely have money to keep food on the table. Thank you for caring and giving. Because of Fred Jordan Missions, they now are excited to get to school!”
MARIA S. - “This is amazing. I am so thankful for people who care. It is truly an incredible blessing. Without Fred Jordan Missions, we would have nothing.”
Friend, if you did not have a chance to be a part of Back to School, then NOW is your chance to give. We are entering our Season of Giving, which is our busiest time of the year. In only a few weeks, I will share Thanksgiving with those living on the streets by feeding them a hot, delicious Thanksgiving meal (and like my mom, Willie would say), “with all the trimmings.”
Additionally, we will distribute family food boxes to hundreds of families who will drive to the Mission with enough food to feed a family of eight.
Don’t miss out on your opportunity to bless families this Thanksgiving. Many will come and serve on that day. But, if that’s not possible for you, then please give as generously as possible. (For more information about serving, go to FJM.org.)

“CHANGING LIVES”
I talked earlier about change, but I wanted to reiterate one fact—something that never changes: the power of the Gospel. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is the hope of the world, and your gift helps Fred Jordan Missions proclaim that truth as we declare and demonstrate the love of Jesus.

Last week, summer officially ended. Now, school is back in session, and we are gearing up for our annual “Back to School Giveaway.”
For over 30 years, we have celebrated this season of life with kids heading back to school by providing them with brand new shoes, clothes, backpacks, and school supplies.
This is our way of encouraging and uplifting thousands of kids as they head back to school or attend for the first time. We know school can be challenging – even overwhelming – and the last thing we want precious kids to think about is wearing tattered clothes or old hand-me-down shoes.
Instead, we want to help them focus on:
1. Being excited about the new school year and opportunities that lie ahead.
2. Not being embarrassed about their shoes and clothes.
3. Cultivating a positive attitude toward learning.
4. Having confidence when interacting with their teachers and classmates.
Together, you can help our “Back to School Giveaway” be a success that reaches beyond just shoes and clothes by making an impact on kids and their parents for the rest of their lives.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
I love what results from this event. When you give toward it, you can have confidence knowing you will help provide kids with:
1. Confidence
2. Focus
3. Resilience
4. The gospel message
5. The knowledge that God cares about them
With so much going on in our world, we can be a light and provide much-needed love and encouragement to this precious generation.
I love sharing these life-changing events with you so, together, we can change our world for the better.
Thank you for your continued support to help us declare and demonstrate the love of Jesus each day. We could not do it without you!

God did not ask us to fix poverty
Almost daily, I have people and close friends say to me, “Joe, poverty and homelessness are running rampant. It’s too big to tackle, and we can’t make a difference!”
My response to them is, “God never asked us to fix poverty or eliminate the poor. Instead, He said, “For you have the poor with you always” (Mark 14:7).
My focus is not on how big the homelessness problem is but on reaching one person at a time. I am choosing to love them, share the gospel with them, and feed and clothe them.

My focus is not on how big the homelessness problem is but on reaching one person at a time. I am choosing to love them, share the gospel with them, and feed and clothe them.
Over 76 years ago, my father started doing that, and my mother joined him several years afterward. Now, three-quarters of a century later, I am continuing my dad’s vision and God’s calling to “Declare and Demonstrate the Love of Jesus.” In His Word, God calls us to love Him with all our heart, mind, and soul. Next, He commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves. We need to take that mandate seriously.

Who are our neighbors?
I ENCOURAGE YOU TO GO OUTSIDE RIGHT NOW AND LOOK BEYOND YOUR DOORSTEP. THINK ABOUT IT WHEN YOU ARE AT THE GROCERY STORE OR FILLING UP YOUR CAR WITH GAS. DO NOT TURN A BLIND EYE BUT GAZE AT THE PEOPLE AROUND YOU.
We have all seen the man holding a sign that says, “Will work for food,” or the mom with her children asking for spare change. These people may not wear the same clothes you have on or drive a car needing gas. But these destitute people are who Jesus referred to as our neighbors. They are in our communities; they are our fellow citizens, and they are human beings like us – just in a deprived situation.
Here is how we reach them: One Soul at a Time. I pray daily for hurting, hopeless people and do what I can to ease their suffering. Will you join me in praying for them and being God’s extended hand in whatever capacity you can?
Next, I want you to help me impact and change lives daily in Los Angeles, the Coachella Valley, and everywhere in between.
September begins the most crucial time of need at Fred Jordan Missions because it launches the busiest months of the year. In the next four months, we will serve more people than we have in the last eight months, which is why I need your help!
Will you give today toward this endeavor?
Please give your most generous financial gift possible today. No gift is too small or too great. We put them all together to have the most significant impact on those we serve – One Soul at a Time.
God Bless You,
Joe Jordan
“Have you seen the girl in this photo?"
I have had you, my friend and faithful partner, on my mind and heart today.
Each and every month, I reach out to you for prayer – and, daily, I see the effects of your prayers upon people as they find hope through the message of the Gospel.
Each and every month, I reach out to you for support – and, daily, I see the effects of your generous giving as we serve hot meals, family food boxes, clothing, shoes, and essentials to people in need.
I want you to know that I never take your support for granted, and I want you to know that, in return, I pray for you.
Needs are just not here on Skid Row or in poverty-stricken neighborhoods. I know you have needs too. I know you have concerns, possibly fears, worry, doubts, insecurities, pain, heartache, and loss too. We have lived through unprecedented times, and some have come through this time unscathed, but many have not.

A few months ago, I shared with you a story about a man, a father, who was searching for his daughter here on Skid Row. He was at the Mission in hopes of finding her. He showed our staff a photo, asking, “Have you seen the girl in this photo?”
Sadly, we had not.
A few months later, we received word that he finally found his daughter. But she was not alive. She had not survived these harsh, brutal streets. I can’t imagine this dad’s pain. I look at my daughter Brooke and can’t imagine losing her. I would go to any lengths possible to reach her, help her, and save her.
So, as I think about this man and his family, I think about you and the people on the streets of Skid Row. I also think about those in the surrounding communities and reflect on this Scripture:
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His
grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored
more abundantly than they all, yet not I,
but the grace of God which was with me.”
1 Corinthians 15:10
In gratitude of thankful hearts, I am asking you once again to join me in praying for God’s mercy and grace to pour out over our families, our communities, and our city.
For those who partner with Fred Jordan Missions in prayer and support, “Thank you!” The power of prayer makes all the difference, and your sacrificial giving helps meet the daily physical needs.
I mentioned this to you last month, but the numbers are still growing.
August is hot in Southern California, so we have shifted our food and clothing distribution to include water, fresh fruits and vegetables, climate relief items like socks, shoes, sandals, soap, shampoo, and the list goes on and on.
Your love, prayers, and financial partnership allow us to impact more lives, so, let’s help them! Together, you and I can make a difference.

Over 100 Years of Service
100 years of service noted: L.L. BEAN - CARHARTT - MAYTAG - COLGATE - HARPERCOLLINS
In a world of “supply and demand” for these companies, 100 years means an unbelievable number of toothpaste tubes, jackets, and work garments have been sold. It also means countless articles of clothing have been cleaned by Maytag washing machines for well over a century, which has been documented in books and magazines published by HarperCollins since the early 1800s. That is sustainability.

It also means countless articles of clothing have been cleaned by Maytag washing machines for well over a century, which has been documented in books and magazines published by HarperCollins since the early 1800s. That is sustainability.
Similarly, since September 1944, literally millions of men, women, boys, and girls have come through the doors of Fred Jordan Missions on Skid Row. Combined with those served through Jordan Outreach Ministries, which my wife and I founded in September 1997, my family has been clothing, feeding, and helping those in need for over a combined 100 years.
Let that sink in for a minute.
I am not lumping Fred Jordan Missions into a “financial success” category. I am simply stating that, between Fred Jordan Missions and Jordan Outreach Ministries, we have been serving the lost, hungry, and hurting for over 100 years combined.
These ministries are not family businesses. They are callings from God, our Heavenly Father.
My mother often said, “I’d like to work myself out of a job, but the hurting and needy will be with us always.” So, today, as I ponder the incredible legacy God has bestowed upon our family, I am asking you and your family to pray for God’s continued guidance and sustainability for us so we can help serve and change the lives of those we encounter.
Then, I am asking you to give your most generous “one-time gift” right now or commit to giving monthly by becoming an impact partner.

All things both great and small;
For the dear God who loveth us,
He made and loveth all.”
Samuel Taylor Coleridge
Since May of 2020, we have seen the number of those in need grow and grow. That translates to an increase of over 400% in our food distributions on Skid Row and the surrounding communities. With summer upon us, we are also including fresh fruits and vegetables, climate-friendly socks, shoes, sandals, soap, and shampoo to our distributions, and the list goes on and on.
Thank you for believing so deeply in this work. Your gifts are allowing us to impact lives for Jesus one by one.

Hurt, pain, and bad decisions are no respecters for man.
If you asked to see my scars, I would not roll up my sleeves and show you my arms. I would ask you to reach inside and pull out my heart, holding it in your hands, to see the knicks and cuts. Some of them have healed. Others have calluses. But my heart is full of regret, pain, sorry, and in need of redemption, restoration, and forgiveness.
These words were spoken by a son who became an addict; a husband who left his wife; a dad who abandoned his family; a man who lived in shame and guilt for choices he made in his life and, by his own account, lived a life of wrong choices.

These words were spoken by a son who became an addict; a husband who left his wife; a dad who abandoned his family; a man who lived in shame and guilt for choices he made in his life and, by his own account, lived a life of wrong choices.
The streets of Skid Row and the poverty-stricken neighborhoods of Los Angeles and Coachella are full of men with scars. But this type of suffering is not limited to those living on the streets or in projects. It affects men and dads in high rises on Wilshire Boulevard or mansions of Bel-Air as well.
Hurt, pain, and bad decisions are no respecters for man.
A few weeks ago, I was at a food distribution event in Thermal, California. We were handing out family food boxes consisting of whole chickens, fresh produce from local farms, milk, eggs, butter, and enough food to feed a family of five for a full week.
Before distributing these essentials, I shared a message of hope to those lining up in their cars. Using modern technology, we obtained a portable radio frequency to transmit my message to each vehicle in proximity to our stage. Remaining socially-distanced, I shared the hope of Jesus with all those in attendance.
At the end of my brief message, I asked those who prayed to receive Christ as Savior to “honk their horns.” Normally, a honking horn is extremely annoying. But, on this day, it was a beautiful sound to hear multiple car horns blare!
Toward the end of the outreach, I was told a man wanted to speak to me. As I approached his vehicle, he rolled down his window. With tears in his eyes, he thanked me, but not for the food boxes and clothing, even though I knew he was grateful for them. He thanked me for sharing the message of hope that is only found in Jesus Christ.
We smiled, fist-bumped, and he went on his way. I don’t know all of his circumstances, but I know he had scars. He may have had years of bad choices. But, on this day, all those bad choices were erased as he received God’s forgiveness and salvation. I pray that man continues finding eternal peace and hope in Christ that he was always searching for.
2 Peter 3:9 says, “The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.”
As Father’s Day approaches in a few weeks, we are preparing a special day just for dads. You might say, “Why celebrate men on the streets of Skid Row and in the Coachella Valley?”
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
It does not matter to me the circumstances surrounding these men and dads. No matter what they have done, who they have lost, what their situation is (whether caused by Covid, incarceration, job loss, abandonment by family, or substance abuse), they need to know there is hope! We are not here to judge but help.
Will you help me today help those with the greatest needs?
I am a son, husband, and dad. I have made some bad choices in my life, yet I know I can trust in the God of 2nd, 3rd, 100, and 1,000 chances. “If not for the grace of God, there go I!”
During June, we will continue clothing, feeding, and serving all those in need from Skid Row, to the surrounding communities in Los Angeles, to the Coachella Valley. Additionally, I want to bless and help dads, give them a hand up, and encourage them with a message of hope.
Please, give your very best gift today. It is greatly needed and appreciated.

To love someone unconditionally requires no vetting
Have you ever heard the statement, “This is the Gospel truth?” Well, here is one:
God commanded us to love one another.
We do not need to verify if this statement is legitimate. It is in the Bible.
The Bible is our guide for life. It was written in its standard form over 2,000 years ago, is the most read book of all time, tops the best sellers list every year, and is the most sold book of all time. With 3.9 billion copies sold in the past 50 years alone, no other book comes close.

During the last few weeks, we have loved daily on thousands of families desperately needing help. As I stood in numerous food distribution lines helping load food boxes into cars and hand out hot, nutritional meals, I thought about this Scripture. It is really a commandment.
“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
John 15:12 (NKJV)
God sent His Son to die on the cross for you and me. That is the ultimate demonstration of love – dying for someone. Note the last part of the Scripture above is, “as I have loved you.” Wow, that is heavy. So, when I am commanded to love others, I think it is much easier than dying for someone. I can definitely do that.
To love someone unconditionally requires no vetting. There is no security checkpoint or screening on Skid Row. I do not know why people are driving through for help or standing in line for food. It is not my job to judge or question that fact. All I know is that they are there because they are broken, hurting, in pain, weak, sick, discouraged, suffering, and, yes, feeling unloved.
Therefore, both you and I can simply do what God commands us to do: Love one another.
I know you are someone capable of loving. You have shown that through your prayers and support of Fred Jordan Missions. Whether you have given $10 or $1,000 in the past, I would like you to consider showing another act of love by giving once again. No gift is too great or too small.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
Whether you give a single dollar or $5 or $10, it all counts, and we will put it all toward feeding and helping serve those in need.
I also encourage you to make Fred Jordan Missions and all our food outreaches part of your monthly giving. Will you consider becoming an Impact Partner with a recurring monthly gift?
Together, you and I can make a difference in the lives of so many. Together, let us love one another as Jesus loves us.

Are we all created equal?
“Live like you were dying” is a song by Tim McGraw. This number one hit is not about throwing caution to the wind or the fear of missing out but is about leading people to “examine their lives.”
This is something most of us did this past year when Covid-19 entered the world and our homes. People began experiencing terrible depression, anxiety, and fear. We sheltered in place and, inevitably, at one time or another, were forced to “examine our lives.”

This is something most of us did this past year when Covid-19 entered the world and our homes. People began experiencing terrible depression, anxiety, and fear. We sheltered in place and, inevitably, at one time or another, were forced to “examine our lives.”
This was not a Skid Row issue but a life issue for us all. My heart hurts for those who have faced unwelcomed heartache and tragedy. My prayer has been that, in this self-examination stage, we all realize we have someone who loves and cares for us, no matter the circumstance or situation. Jesus said He would never leave or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). I love that and stand daily on that promise.
“Unto the least of these” is another meaningful set of words I heard my father and mother say throughout my entire life. It is taken from a passage of Scripture in Matthew 25:40.
This phrase does not mean that some people are less valuable than others as if there is a hierarchy of human worth in God’s sight. Instead, all people are created equal.
Therefore, someone’s bank account or social status does not make them more valuable than our friends on Skid Row who do not have bank accounts.
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
I want to personally help those in need because they are valuable. For 76 years, the heartbeat of Fred Jordan Missions has been to serve the “least of these” – those who are vulnerable, sick, poor, and mentally and physically disabled.
I have to say; this is not just a job. It is a calling. Declaring and demonstrating the love of Jesus to homeless, hurting, and hopeless individuals are what God has called me, my wife, and those who work and serve alongside us to do.
Will you join us? There are so many ways you can get involved, from serving to giving, and we need both.
Most everyone reading this letter can give something, great or small. Every gift matters and goes toward feeding, clothing, and serving those who literally have nothing. If you have a business with “in-kind gifts” that our friends and guests could benefit from, please contact us.
This week, we are handing out essential baskets for Easter. They are filled with food to feed families for a week, including fresh fruits and vegetables, meats, and dairy products. They also include soap, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, diapers, and special treats for the children.
We will also continue giving out essential baskets throughout the month.
$25 = Essential food baskets for families in need
$15 = Essential clothes and hygiene baskets for individuals
Your gift of $40 this month will go further than ever before.
As you examine your life and realize you are blessed, I ask you to bless others with your best gift possible. Together we really are making a difference.

EASTER IS NOT CANCELED
One year ago, life was beginning to make sense for most Americans. Unemployment was at an all-time low, the stock market was rising, and the U.S. poverty level was trending downward. But then, out of nowhere, we were hit with this world-wide pandemic of Covid-19.
One year ago, life was beginning to make sense for most Americans. Unemployment was at an all-time low, the stock market was rising, and the U.S. poverty level was trending downward. But then, out of nowhere, we were hit with this world-wide pandemic of Covid-19.
The unthinkable happened. A few weeks after our nation complied with our leader’s orders to slow the spread, Easter was canceled, and we were asked not to publicly celebrate Easter.
When has that ever happened in the history of the world?
Now that we are only weeks away from Easter 2021, I began thinking about what the weeks leading up to Jesus’ crucifixion were like for Him and why we celebrate it today.
You would think, even back then, that the life of Jesus was going pretty well. After all, He was the Son of God. He talked about love, peace, forgiveness, and the promise of eternal life.
Miracles happened everywhere He went: Blind eyes were opened. The crippled could walk. Thousands were fed with only five loaves of bread and two fish as they multiplied miraculously in His hands.
Then one day, murmuring and rumors started. People scoffed and doubted. It began at the house of Jesus’ friend Lazarus when Mary washed His feet with expensive perfume. Judas questioned her reason for “wasting” such a costly fragrance.
Then, as He entered Jerusalem, the multitudes praised Him, but the Pharisees and religious leaders wanted Him silenced. They, along with the chief priests, scribes, elders who hated him, met at the palace of Caiaphas to hatch a plan to kill Him.
In the end, Jesus was betrayed by Judas Iscariot for 30 pieces of silver. Peter, His trusted disciple, denied Him, and ultimately, Jesus was falsely charged with treason and sentenced to death.
He was cursed, flogged, beaten, and spit on before ultimately being nailed to a cross. It was there that He died a brutal death.
You might say, “Joe, what is your point? Why are you recounting the weeks leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus? What does this have to do with today?”
My point is that, in 2021, we are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus! This year’s Easter celebration will not be canceled or ignored but celebrated more than ever before! (We will still follow the COVID-19 safety precautions of wearing masks and social distancing as we declare and demonstrate the love of Jesus.)
Our plan at Fred Jordan Missions is to shout it from the Mission’s roof, on the streets of Skid Row, and in the projects and neighborhoods of Los Angeles to the Coachella Valley:
JESUS HAS RISEN! JESUS IS OUR REDEEMER! JESUS IS OUR HOPE FOR THIS HURTING WORLD!
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
This is what Easter 2021 will look like at Fred Jordan Missions, and I want you to be a part of sharing in this celebration.
We will declare the hope of Jesus, share His love, and allow people the opportunity to know Him personally.
We have thousands of Easter baskets that will be handed out from Skid Row to the Coachella Valley. These baskets will be packed with food to serve an entire family.
We will hand out Easter baskets filled with hygiene essentials like shampoo, soap, lotion, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs, brushes and – for those who need them – baby food and diapers for infants and toddlers! Each child will also receive a special Easter basket.
$25 = Provides a food box for families and individuals in need
$15 = Provides an Easter Basket of essentials and blankets for our friends in need
Your gift of $40 will go farther than ever before.
God is good. He is also faithful. We are grateful for friends like you who help us feed, clothe, and declare His goodness to others.
Remember, He has Risen!

Take Cover
I was born, raised, and have resided in Southern California all my life. As a result, I have lived through many earthquakes.
There have been thousands of tremors, most of which we do not feel. But then there are those we will never forget, such as the Sylmar (1971), Whittier Narrows (1987), Loma Prieta (1989), and Northridge earthquakes (1994).
When an earthquake hits, there are instructions we should follow:
If you are indoors, drop and take cover under a sturdy table or doorway. Hold on and stay put until the shaking stops.
Stay clear of items that can fall and injure you, such as windows, fireplaces, and heavy furniture.
That is great practical advice for an earthquake.
As of late, I think of life as a major earthquake: circumstances are unpredictable, everything feels very unstable, our world seems shattered, and our very foundation of existence is being shaken. People are sick, losing their jobs, hurting, and are being shaken to the core.
We are experiencing an “earthquake” in life. Therefore, I want to encourage you with some instructions for surviving:
God is Our Comfort (2 Corinthians 1:3-5)
God is Our Peace (John 14:27)
God is Our Strength (Isaiah 41:10)
God is Our Refuge (Psalm 91:1-2)
God is Our Hope (Romans 15:13)
Know that, at Fred Jordan Missions, we are here to stand and pray with you in this time of doubt, worry, and fear. Remember: Jesus is unshakable! He is “the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). As I always say, “In an ever-changing world, we serve an unchanging God.”
$25 | $50 | $100 | $250 | $500 | $1,000 | $1,500
Every day on the streets of Skid Row, surrounding communities of Los Angeles, and neighborhoods of the Coachella Valley, we bring comfort and help to those in need. The Mission and our drive-thru food distributions are the only lifelines for thousands who are hungry, cold, and afraid. We cannot help people without YOU.
Today, your gifts will feed, clothe, and help those who have nothing, no matter their circumstances. The need is real, and the needs are now.
Will you help us continue to reach them through your best gift possible today?
I am not sure what the future holds, but I know who holds our future. Thank you for helping us help others in Jesus’ name.
