Dear friend, Many decades ago, my parents, Fred and Willie Jordan, looked into the eyes of hungry, forgotten people on the streets of Los Angeles and did something beautifully simple: They gave them Jesus. "Bread n' Butter" was a simple, loving message they shared with friends like you, and today I want you to feel the same heartbeat of that love extended. Every day, men, women, and children came to the Mission doors. Back then, for a single dollar, a person could be fed physically, but my parents knew that if they only filled stomachs and never offered them Jesus, the Bread of Life, they would be failing the very people they loved. Their dream was to find a thousand friends who would help keep a thousand precious souls alive one more day, long enough to hear that Jesus loves and died for them. |

So much has changed since then—and yet, heartbreakingly, so much has not. The streets are meaner now. Addiction is stronger, cheaper, and everywhere. People are not only numbing pain with alcohol, but with fentanyl, meth, pills, and anything they can find to forget another night on the sidewalk. Our city's answer is often to manage the crisis, not to heal it: Clean needles, Narcan, quick responses that keep bodies breathing, but cannot touch the soul. A clean needle cannot forgive sin. A dose of Narcan cannot restore a broken family. Only Jesus can do that. Yet in the middle of all this, Fred Jordan Missions is here—still standing where my parents stood, and by God's grace, going even further. Day after day, we are feeding, clothing, listening, praying, holding hands in the gutter and on the curb, and boldly sharing Jesus, the true Bread of Life. Every meal served, every blanket given, every prayer whispered over a trembling addict says, "You are not trash. You are loved. Jesus has not forgotten you." |
