We have seen several deaths from overdoses within feet of our front door, and nothing prepares you for seeing a lifeless body put into a body bag and carried away.
David, our Outreach Pastor, and one of our interns were recently handing out food to the homeless when a commotion erupted across the street. Immediately, they ran toward the commotion and saw some homeless rifling through bags and clothing.
A man was lying motionless on the ground. It was Miguel. He was a regular at the Mission but lay unconscious, foaming at the mouth with a needle still lodged in his arm.

Our team is on HIGH ALERT; fentanyl and other fatal drugs are available on every corner.
David quickly checked his vitals. His heartbeat was fading, so he promptly administered Narcan and began chest compressions.
“Come on, God! Come on,” he cried out!
Paramedics arrived, and they worked steadily until Miguel finally drew a breath.
A few days later, Miguel came to the Mission and spoke with David. He shared how he felt alone in the world and how he would have been okay to die. His eyes quickly filled with tears, and a spark of hope ignited within him as he heard this message of hope. He prayed with David and the team and accepted Jesus into his heart as Lord and Savior.
Hopefully, this story reminds us not to wait until it’s too late to seek help for ourselves or to be a light for others. “Wherever there is someone in need, a small act of kindness can change their world.”

More Children Are on the Streets Than Ever—They Need You
Today, I stood at the corner of Fred Jordan Missions on 5th Street and Towne Avenue and was transported back to my childhood—holding my father’s hand and walking these streets with my mother, Willie.
As I gazed up at the towering buildings that stand as silent witnesses to the heart-wrenching scenes below, my heart was stirred by the stark contrast between these streets 50 years ago and how drastically they have changed over the last two to three years.
Today, I stood at the corner of Fred Jordan Missions on 5th Street and Towne Avenue and was transported back to my childhood—holding my father’s hand and walking these streets with my mother, Willie.
As I gazed up at the towering buildings that stand as silent witnesses to the heart-wrenching scenes below, my heart was stirred by the stark contrast between these streets 50 years ago and how drastically they have changed over the last two to three years.
Then I looked up at the Mission sign, a symbol of hope in these trying times and a radiant light that remains unquenchable.
These streets have become brutal, harsh, and even frightening. Amidst the chaos, my eyes fall upon families struggling to survive. I also do not remember seeing this many children in years past.
I am thankful that these families find their way to the welcoming doors of Fred Jordan Missions every week. They not only come for a hot meal or a box of groceries but a word of hope, prayer, and love found only in Jesus. Fred Jordan Missions truly becomes a sanctuary, a refuge amidst the chaos and uncertainty that surrounds them.
I am reminded of the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37), where compassion and kindness transcend boundaries and urge us to extend a hand to those in need, regardless of their circumstances.

I am reaching out to you today with a profound and urgent call for support.

I first met David when he was 16 years old and volunteered as a drummer at one of our events in the Coachella Valley. Even then, his servant’s heart was evident. PLEASE READ:
On the streets of Skid Row, a man sought solace outside the doors of Fred Jordan Missions. His weary, frail figure was a painful reminder of the countless others facing similar trials—leaving an indelible mark on our hearts.
He sat on the sidewalk, exhausted and in need of help. One of our ministry team members noticed him and stopped to assist. Though tired from a long day of serving, they offered him a cot near the Mission and the neighboring alley.
The day moved forward in its usual rhythm as we served hundreds of homeless souls who passed through our doors for nourishment and care.
But as evening fell and the Mission was ready to close, we noticed the man was still resting on the cot. Yet, something seemed different about him.
His skin was pale, and his hand was laying limp at his side. As we drew closer, reality hit hard—he had passed away. He was lifeless. No breath. His mouth was closed, and his pulse was gone.
The news of his sudden passing rippled through the Mission. Disbelief was etched on the faces of those who had seen him. His name was David, too, yet he had never been a regular at our doors.
But, on this particular day, something inexplicably drew him here. Had he sensed his time was near? Or was it the comfort he felt while lying down and listening to the Word of God echoing through our chapel speakers?
In the quiet aftermath, we prayed together as a staff. Tears filled the eyes of those who had spoken with him earlier, and one of our team members clung to David’s final words, which he whispered that morning as he sat down on the cot. It was a message that resonated as if Christ Himself had spoken:
“I don’t know you, but I love you.”

As a native of Covina, I feel a personal connection to those impacted by this disaster. Like many of you, I have friends who have been displaced. My own family experienced a similar heartbreak just months before I was born when our home was destroyed by a fire and burnt to the ground—leaving my parents and five siblings homeless. This devastating reality fuels my determination to help others who are facing the same tragedy.

Lily came to the mission, hungry and afraid, as her parents lay outside unconscious in a broken-down RV, overcome by addiction.
In her eyes, we saw a reflection of countless others—souls longing for hope and a tangible expression of God’s love.
These moments remind us of our divine calling: to be vessels of God’s unyielding compassion and to “Declare and Demonstrate the Love of Jesus” to those who feel lost and forsaken.

Now that Thanksgiving is over, we are in the midst of the holiday season, frantically working through our “To-Do List” to prepare for Christmas. It is hard to believe that Christmas is already upon us, but we are excited to serve those in Jesus’ name at Fred Jordan Missions.
Although the bumper sticker slogan “Jesus is the reason for the season” continues to be popular, the essence of Christmas truly lies in the act of giving.

These individuals are not defined by their poverty but by their deep-seated need for help, hope, love, and, most of all, Jesus.
Some of our staff recently spoke with Gigi, a friend living on Skid Row. She expressed her profound appreciation for FJM and said that sitting outside the Mission during the day allows her to hear the message of Jesus and how much He loves her. Gigi described feeling safe at FJM—a place where she senses God’s presence distinctly and a space filled with love. Love was born in a manger on Christmas Day, and His name is Jesus. Every Christmas at Fred Jordan Missions, we celebrate that truth as the ultimate gift of love to the world.

Throughout the Bible, there are numerous instances where Jesus showed compassion towards the poor and needy, emphasizing the importance of caring for our brothers and sisters who are less fortunate.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus reminds us, “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me” (Matthew 25:40).

It is all thanks to the unwavering dedication and commitment of my parents, Fred and Willie Jordan, who began the Mission’s work in 1944, which is now carried on by our dedicated “Team Jesus” staff.
During Thanksgiving, the mission’s tradition of setting up banquet tables on the streets has brought warmth and sustenance to the hearts and bodies of countless souls. Volunteers, by the thousands, have come together to serve those in dire need, reflecting the true spirit of selflessness and compassion.
In the heartfelt words of my mom, Willie Jordan, “I wish we could work ourselves out of a job, but Jesus said the poor will be with us always.”
These words ring true, reminding us of the persistent call to action and the ongoing need for love and service in our communities. We must continue the work, undeterred by the challenges that lie ahead, because every marginalized individual deserves to be seen, heard, and supported.

As we navigate through this MIRACLE EVENT, the streets around us have become increasingly desperate and dangerous. Just days ago, two men overdosed on Fentanyl on our doorstep, highlighting the urgency of the situation. Though low-income government housing provides shelter for eligible families, it often leaves them without basic necessities like food, cooking equipment, or proper means to prepare meals.
Families in need knock on our door seeking assistance, and we lovingly provide them with suitable food items for their housing conditions. We have adjusted our efforts to offer premade soups, macaroni and cheese, box dinners, canned meats, crackers, drinks, and fresh fruits and vegetables to those hungry and thirsty.
In the face of these challenges, we are determined to press forward with Jesus by our side. However, this is one of the darkest financial times we have experienced in 80 years, and your support is needed now more than ever.

August is one of the hottest months and one of the most challenging for FJM to operate, which is why your financial support is vital.
While our friends on Skid Row may come to us for a simple drink of water, we open our doors and invite them into our chapel (this is the part I love and why I am serving at FJM). There, we tell them the physical water they seek will always leave them wanting more, and they will be thirsty again.
But then we share this good news with them: If you want NEVER TO BE THIRSTY, you must put your trust in JESUS. In the Bible, Jesus says, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (John 4:13-14).
We are dedicated to sharing the truth of the Gospel of Jesus and helping people find relief and contentment for today. Most importantly, we want them to have the hope of Heaven through Jesus.

July 4th is just a few days away. Hotdogs will fire up on grills, fireworks will launch into the skies, and many will gather with family and friends to recognize and celebrate our freedom on this Independence Day.
In New York Harbor stands a 150-foot-high statue, famously known as “Lady Liberty,” holding a 30-foot flame that symbolizes our freedom.
The founding fathers of the United States cried for liberty under English rule, as penned in the“Declaration of Independence”:
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal,that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.”

The cry for freedom found in Christianity far precedes the modern understanding of freedom. In Galatians 5:1, the Bible emphatically states that believers are free in Christ:
“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.”
Jesus’ sacrificial death fulfilled the law, setting believers free from the law of sin and death. Through the Spirit of God, His laws are now written in our hearts, allowing us to serve and follow Jesus in ways that please and glorify Him.
As we approach Independence Day, let us enjoy our freedom and liberties and remember Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. This sacrifice grants access to freedom for all, including our friends on SkidRow and all those in the surrounding communities we serve at Fred Jordan Missions.

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. As you are aware, I am the son of Fred and Willie Jordan, who founded Fred Jordan Missions in 1944.
It has been my honor and privilege to lead this ministry since 2018. It is also a blessing to celebrate our 80th year of ministering to the poor and needy in 2024. Our calling and mission are to continue declaring and demonstrating God’s love to all we serve so they can lead victorious lives.

I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits. As you are aware, I am the son of Fred and Willie Jordan, who founded Fred Jordan Missions in 1944. It has been my honor and privilege to lead this ministry since 2018.
It is also a blessing to celebrate our 80th year of ministering to the poor and needy in 2024. Our calling and mission are to continue declaring and demonstrating God’s love to all we serve so they can lead victorious lives.
Jesus said: “Go into all the world to preach the Gospel.” His words have compelled and mandated us to expand our reach beyond the streets of Skid Row. We are seizing every available opportunity through modern technology to spread the love of Jesus in ways that my dad could have only dreamed of. Although my father passed away before the first iPhone was invented, I am confident he would have embraced any means to share this message far and wide. My dad’s heart was always fixated on spreading the Gospel, which is the central focus of my calling and mission.
Living a victorious life in Jesus enables us to grasp the true meaning behind Jesus’ words to care for the “least of these.” It is not limited to only Skid Row but extends to poverty-stricken areas in Los Angeles, the Inland Empire, and the Coachella Valley. To achieve this, I believe it is essential to embrace the tools at our disposal today, such as television (which has been a part of this ministry since 1951), radio, YouTube, and social media. This is the path God has called me to—to reach people through various platforms to share His message of salvation, hope, and transformation.
“I want to emphasize that it is crucial not only to have the support necessary to make a difference in the lives of those we
serve but also to witness a change in your life.”
Please understand that we are all experiencing some form of suffering, regardless of our living conditions. Just because we do not reside on Skid Row does not mean we are immune to pain. Because of that, my mission is to share the love of Jesus with as many in need of hope through every possible means. To achieve this, we need friends like you, who believe in Fred Jordan Missions’ calling, to step up and support us like never before.

Reflecting upon all the amazing things Jesus has done over the years at FJM, I am constantly reminded of the profound impact we have had, as evidenced by the myriad of photographs, heartfelt letters, and compelling stories we have heard and received. Among these many treasures was a video I recently found titled “FRED WAS AN AMAZING MAN!”
In this video, my mother tells this story:
If you know anything about my mom, Willie, she is a warrior for Christ and was my dad’s greatest supporter.
This story is just one of many engraved in my memory from my parents’ years of serving “the forgotten people” of Skid Row. Sadly, the needs of those on the streets are even greater today than they have been over the last 80 years. However, our determination and focus to help them have only grown stronger despite the challenges we are facing with declining support.
Recently, we hosted a beautiful Easter celebration for hundreds on Skid Row, and soon, we will honor mothers during our upcoming Mother’s Day event.

Help Us Give Hope This Easter
What does Easter mean to the people of Skid Row who are oppressed, marginalized, and struggling with food insecurities and a lack of companionship and connection?
I believe this is the most significant celebration we have all year because our sole
focus is “Soul Focus,” as we share the hope of Jesus with hopeless souls.

Easter has the potential to be a life-changing event for many of our friends on these streets. As we come together to celebrate Jesus, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, we remember not only His death and burial but His resurrection.
This powerful message reminds us that He is alive and that there is a God in Heaven who loves us so much that He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for our sins. He conquered the grave; He conquered death, and we share this message of life with everyone who sits at our table.
Easter is going to be a great celebration on our streets.
This year marks our 80th year of ministry, from 1944 to 2024, and once again, we will set up beautiful banquet tables in front of the mission. We will invite our guests to sit and dine with us, serving them a hot and delicious meal.
Our “Team Jesus” staff and volunteers will not only serve but sit, talk, and pray with our guests. We will also have live music and worship, and I will share the Resurrection message, pointing them toward Jesus.
For many, Easter could be just another day of sorrow, hopelessness, and struggle to survive. However, I firmly believe that this day will provide hundreds with the opportunity to have their circumstances and lives changed forever.
Jesus gave His life and extended His love and compassion to the “least of these.”

I hesitated to write this letter, but I firmly believe that the Lord has placed an urgent need on my heart to share with you.
Last year was truly a remarkable year for FJM in our mission to “declare and demonstrate the love of
Jesus” to those we serve on Skid Row and beyond.
However, a few months ago, we faced an unexpected challenge when a new fire marshal from Los Angeles conducted a walk-through of the Mission. The news he brought was surprising and demanded immediate action.
I hesitated to write this letter, but I firmly believe that the Lord has placed an urgent need on my heart to share with you.
Last year was truly a remarkable year for FJM in our mission to “declare and demonstrate the love of
Jesus” to those we serve on Skid Row and beyond.
However, a few months ago, we faced an unexpected challenge when a new fire marshal from Los Angeles conducted a walk-through of the Mission. The news he brought was surprising and demanded immediate action.
In nearly 80 years, neither my father nor my mother had ever encountered any fire or safety concerns. We have had fire marshals and inspectors visit us annually, and everything was always in compliance. But this time, for whatever reason, the new fire marshal required us to make a series of costly changes amounting to over $150,000.
Here is the list of items we were required to change or update:
Replace the hardware on approximately 75 doors throughout the building.
Re-key each door on a grandmaster system, ensuring the fire department can access any door with a single key.
Make adjustments or relocate numerous illuminated exit signs, emergency lights, and strobes within the building.
Install new smoke seals on every door.
Replace some of our existing fire-rated doors with new ones.
Adding to this burden was the requirement to replace the fire panel in the lobby, which required
engineering work and permits from the building department.
Today, with the work finally completed, the bills from the contractors are now due. We have paid as much as we can, and a few concerned friends of FJM have generously stepped up to help us bring the balance owed down. But we still find ourselves with an outstanding amount due and the inability to pay it. This
outstanding amount is above what our ministry needs to help those on Skid Row and beyond each day.
With a humble heart, I seek your assistance to help us cover the remaining costs and provide the funds needed to feed and care for the poor and homeless. I assure you I would not make this request if it were not urgent.
Over the years, you have shown us unwavering support through your prayers and generosity, and we are eternally grateful. Your continued love and support of Fred Jordan Missions and those we serve in Jesus’ name has made a tremendous impact.

Be Love
February is a beautiful month, especially with Valentine’s Day at its core. As Hallmark cards, flowers, and candy boxes fly off the shelves, we are reminded of the world’s impression of love. I am proud to be a contributor to this expression, as my wife, Kris, and I always celebrate Valentine’s Day together.
However, I also want you to know that you are loved! This letter is not a Valentine’s message but a realization of what love means and how we should extend it to those around us, not just in February but throughout the year.

February is a beautiful month, especially with Valentine’s Day at its core. As Hallmark cards, flowers, and candy boxes fly off the shelves, we are reminded of the world’s impression of love. I am proud to be a contributor to this expression, as my wife, Kris, and I always celebrate Valentine’s Day together.
However, I also want you to know that you are loved! This letter is not a Valentine’s message but a realization of what love means and how we should extend it to those around us, not just in February but throughout the year.
To emphasize this point, here are five key Scripture verses that I want you to note:
John 15:12: “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
Mark 12:31: “‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
1 Corinthians 13:4: “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up.”
1 Corinthians 16:14: “Let all that you do be done with love.”
Lastly, my personal favorite is:
John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
We must not ever forget that Jesus is the greatest gift of love ever given! He died for our sins, and the sins of the entire world, and His love extends to everyone, whether they live in suburbia, on Skid Row, or in a cardboard box under a bridge. His love is everlasting.
I pray that these Scriptures encourage you to show the love of Jesus to those in your life and extend a helping hand to those who need to feel loved.
This month, please help us go the extra mile to make our guests who come through our doors:
Know that Jesus loves them with an everlasting love in all circumstances.
Feel our love through compassionate actions like feeding, clothing, and assisting them in their troubled situations.

Christmas at The Mission
What do you say to a homeless person at Christmas?
No pre-written cards by Hallmark can provide the right words to alleviate their pain and suffering. It is disheartening to witness the emptiness in their eyes, as if life has been drained from them. It leaves me speechless. Their pain runs so deep that I struggle to find the right words in my own human capacity to express the empathy and sorrow I feel for them. However, in these moments, I am grateful that words come to life within me on a spiritual level. Words that are rooted in Scripture, stories, and the promises of God that dwell deep within my soul.

As I write to you today, I am not at a loss for words, especially during this remarkable season of the year. While the phrase “Tis the Season to be Jolly” may seem cliché, and “Jesus is the reason for the Season” makes for a great bumper sticker, the true essence of Christmas lies in the fact that God sent His only Son, Jesus, into the world. This great act of love ensures that you and I, and every single one of these precious yet helpless and hopeless individuals, know that Jesus came to save us.
That is the message I share with them: JESUS LOVES YOU!!!
As we prepare to celebrate Christmas at the Mission this year, I want our friends to understand that, beyond the food and gifts they will receive, Jesus is the greatest gift of all.
